A few articles detailing the importance of UX focused design have popped up in my feed over the past week so it seemed like a good time for a blog post. What is UX? UX means user experience. For your business, the user is your customer. UX design refers to the user experience for a tech product and most articles will explain why having a positive UX design is so important to business development and attracting customers. The concept is pretty simple – Positive user experience on a website or app has a strong correlation with business growth and development. UX and brand protection go hand in hand as this post discusses.
So, what does that have to do with brand protection? UX is a huge part of a small business’s brand. Customers will remember positive and negative user experiences and will associate those memories with your brand. Small businesses that are serious about customer development are going to invest in creating a positive user experience.
These businesses should also invest in protecting their brand with federal trademark registration. Having a positive UX is great, but its value is significantly diminished if your brand can be confused with or appropriated by another with a negative UX. Registering your brand identifiers with the USPTO will let others know that you are serious about protecting your brand and it will give you a legal recourse to go after others who may have a negative UX impacting your business. Put another way, federal trademark registration will give your small business the tools to get the most value out of a positive UX.
To sum it up, if you are investing in a positive UX, then you care about your brand and should be investing in brand protection as well.
As always, feel free to Contact Alex to discuss the post or to get started on registering your brand identifiers with the USPTO.
